The End

Blog 19 – the end

Don’t be alarmed people, I’m trying to build a sense of occasion which will result in ‘the end’. My blog I’ll write it my way.

Lots of things happen which seem to lead to an inevitable conclusion, I think the word is known to all ‘Police’ fans and to the rest of the world as ‘synchronicity’ (I spelt that right first time – chest swells with pride but only a little.

So where to begin

In the beginning, taking into account the history of JB and me, we come to the prime reason for the end. It’s been nearly 12 months since my major op which gave rise to the big C which cleared by March. Lucky or what. That said I still had and have problems which slow things up. So 18months ago the amount of driving I did was reduced, with Lyn taking us wherever we needed to go. When Lyn passed she had told the girls not to let me drive – sensible decision which I took onboard – hence the MB on the drive. Mobility and general function reducing which last Feb I declared that when my license expired (nov.24) that would be the complete stop. And the consultant agreed not to agree to my renewal.

So I sold the car. With Lyn not here and with encouragement from the kids, I had a look at the ‘buyapressie’ website and found an experience that I thought would be a good way to end my driving.

I contacted the people who organized the event, told them what I hoped to-do -the chap there liked the idea. So we  sorted that, you know dates times etc.

Then I wanted part two to fit with something Lyn would have enjoyed. And I had an idea, contacted numerous people, found a venue which fitted my requirement but that said the people who run it were truly magnificent.

To give a clue: the final event was connected to surrendering my freedom ticket, but this way.

After having made the decision to finish driving the event which caught my attention was a drive in a dream car.  On checking it stated a full driving license required, hurriedly checked mine – believe it or not exactly one month left on the event day. Sorted and booked.

The second was reliant on family members taking part, contacted and prayed for the result.

Third – if second didn’t work out then third would look very sad.

After weeks or not knowing how things would go everything and I really everything could not have been bettered.

On the day the sun shone and the wind was light -  perfect.

The venue, bearing in mind the nature of the event was and is   -  perfect

The second venue all on track and organised to fit in following the main event – perfect

Family and friends in character, making our part of the day complete and totally in keeping with the MV.  -  Perfect

Driver, nervous, mouth dry, done up like a tailors dummy, and just as immobile at that point. Not quite perfect, but close.

Event managers, everyone was helpful, in complete understanding of what I was hoping to achieve, and seemed to be enjoying it as much as we were.

To that end, we became a publicity campaign on their behalf, photo shoots, extra driving opportunities and gratefully received assistance when I flagged a bit.  With the other spectators and other drivers doing their thing also watching it felt like the whole venue was having a good time.

So, I can hear the question ‘what’s happening?’ the event could be given the headline that after years of following this hero, I took my very last drive and driving experience, a bit of a dream, but you know what can happen in dreams

I was dressed in a cream tuxedo – in an energy and adrenalin packed environment –
